What Is the "Main axis not at 100" Error Message on my MT-1501-7S Machine?

PUBLISHED

If you're using a Ricoma machine, you may have encountered a "Main Axis Not At 100" error message.

This error message indicates that the machine's sensor is not aligned, and it must be aligned and set at 100 degrees for normal operations to begin.

Here's what you need to know about this error message and how to resolve it:

What is a Main Axis Error on a Ricoma Machine?

A "main axis error" is an indication that the machine's sensor is not aligned. This error message will appear if the machine is not at its idle position but is still turned on, or if the machine has detected a problem like if the needle hits the hoop or if you get birds nesting.

Resolving Main Axis Error

To resolve this error message, please follow these steps:

  1. Find a needle: If you are not in a needle already, make sure you rotate the red knob to find one.

2. Check if the degree wheel is rotating freely: Are you able to rotate the degree wheel 2-3 times counterclockwise without any resistance? See step 4 if you feel any resistance.

3. Turn off and turn on the machine: If the degree wheel is rotating freely, turn off the machine, stop it exactly at 100 degrees, and turn it on again. If the error message cleared out you should be good to go.

4. Check the rotary hook: If you feel any resistance when turning the degree wheel, it may mean that something is impeding the movement of the machine. To resolve this, expose the bobbin/rotary hook area:

Once that area is exposed and the bobbin case removed, check the rotary hook for thread build-up or a needle stuck. Here's a helpful video that shows you that process:

5. Timing adjustment: This step is only necessary if you loosen the screws or take out the rotary hook. Here's the video link: MT proper timing
