SWIFT: Needle Bar Depth

PUBLISHED

Incorrect Needle Bar Depth can seem like an issue with Timing, but it would only affect the needle that needs to be adjusted. If the issue is with all needles, the problem is most likely Timing.

First, it's important to determine whether the issue is happening with ALL needles, or just one or a few.

If it's only happening with one or a few needles, it's possible that the issue could be related to the Needle Bar Depth. Adjusting this may resolve the problem you're facing.

If the issue is happening with all of the needles, you will most likely need to correct the Rotary Hook Timing.

To adjust the Needle Bar Depth, please move the head to the affected needle and perform the adjustment below:

  1. Turn the Main Axis on the machine to 100°.

  2. Remove the front covers on your machine.

Remove the 4 screws circled in the picture below.

  3. Push down the top of the needle bar until the needle catches and stays down when let go.

  4. Turn the Main Axis on the machine to 172°.

  5. Loosen the lower Needle Bar Clamp. Do not remove the screw.

  6. Lift up the Needle bar about half an inch by pushing up on the black clamp.

  7. Insert a 6mm Allen key inside the Bobbin area, right above the center shaft that holds the bobbin case. Make sure to keep a flat side up and a flat side down.

  8. Push down on the black clamp until the tip of the needle touches the Allen key.

  9. Once the tip of the needle touches the Allen key, tighten the lower Needle Bar clamp.

  10. Loosen the Allen screw holding the Black Upper Dead-End Point Clamp. Once it is loosened, the clamp should slide up and down.

  11. Turn the Main Axis to exactly 360°. The needle will move up.

  12. Once the machine is at 360°push up the Black Clamp and tighten the Allen screw.

  13. Press the 100° button on the screen to reset the axis. The machine should cycle to 100° and should not have any needles down.

  14. Press the Scissor button to test the needle.

If the adjustment was performed correctly, the needle should cycle down and back up.
If the needle did not cycle down and up, you can try to repeat steps 10-12.

  15. Once the needle is correctly cycling up and down, you have finished the Needle Bar Depth adjustment and can reassemble the front covers on the machine and test the needles.

If after making the adjustment, multiple needles are still having issues, you may need to adjust the Rotary Hook Timing.
