SWD: Centering The Head

PUBLISHED

To center the head, perform the adjustment below:

  1. Begin by turning the main axis to 100°.

  2. Using a Phillips screwdriver, remove the 2 screws on the color change motor cover. This will give you access to the components you need to adjust.

  3. With your 3mm Allen key T-handle, loosen the screw on the cam. If you only have a regular Allen key, use pliers to help you loosen it more easily.

  4. Turn the red knob on the color change motor until the next screw on the color change cam is revealed, and the panel shows a needle number.

  5. Loosen the next screw with the 3mm T-handle.

  6. At this point, you should be able to manually move the machine's head left and right.

  7. Make sure there is a needle aligned with the needle plate hole to avoid a needle hitting the needle plate. Then, rotate the main axis until you see the needle moving down, and stop when the axis is at 172°Ensure that the needle goes down through the hole.

  8. Lift the presser foot to get a better view of where the needle is inside the hole. If the needle is not in the center, lightly tap the head left or right until the needle is centered in the hole.

  9. If the needle is centered, go back and tighten the screw on the cam. Make sure the head and cam do not move while tightening the set screw. Keep the screw pointing straight up verically.

  10. Press the 100° button to bring the needle up. Then turn the red knob until the other screw shows, and tighten it.

  11. Finally, place the cover back on and tighten the screws. This ensures that everything is secure and ready for use.

Once the cover is back on, you have finished centering the head.
