Creator: Take-Up Lever Adjustment

PUBLISHED

The take-up lever adjustment in commercial embroidery machines plays a critical role in thread tension and stitch formation. Its purpose is to ensure smooth thread control during the embroidery process by coordinating the release and retraction of thread through each stitch cycle.

Overview:
This procedure outlines the steps required to inspect and adjust the take-up lever alignment on your embroidery machine. Proper take-up lever alignment is critical for thread tension consistency and stitch quality.

Step 1: Confirm Machine Position at 100°

  1. Ensure the machine is positioned at 100 degrees
    1. Confirm the main screen reads exactly 100.
    2. On the rear of the machine, verify that the mechanical degree dial also reads 100°, with the dash precisely aligned with the red arrow indicator.

Step 2: Access the Head Assembly

  1. Locate the four Phillips-head screws securing the front head cover:
    1. There are two screws on each side, positioned below the thread tension knobs.
    2. Remove these using a #2 Phillips screwdriver.
  2. Unthread the needles or provide adequate thread slack
    1. It is recommended to leave the threads intact by pulling extra slack to allow free movement of the head.
    2. This avoids rethreading and reduces setup time.
  3. Disconnect the black and red cable
    1. Locate the twist tie securing the cable.
    2. Untie or remove the tie to free the cable.
  4. Carefully pivot the head assembly backward and gently lay it onto the rear of the machine:
    1. Support the head during this process to avoid damaging internal wiring or components.

Step 3: Adjust the Take-Up Lever

  1. Using a flashlight, inspect the internal assembly from the top.
    1. Locate the 3 mm adjustment screw, which secures the take-up lever mechanism.
  2. Use a 3 mm T-handle Allen wrench or a standard 3 mm hex key
    1. If using a standard hex key, a pair of needle-nose or regular pliers may assist in loosening the screw.
  3. With the machine still set at 100 degrees, manually adjust the misaligned take-up lever so it is level with the others.
  4. Once all take-up levers are visually and mechanically aligned, tighten the 3 mm screw securely to lock the lever into place.

Step 4: Reassemble the Machine

  1. Reposition the head assembly:
  2. Carefully reconnect the black and red cable into its original position.
  3. Ensure the cable does not interfere with any moving parts inside the head.
  4. While supporting the head, gently pull down on the thread tails to ensure proper tension and prevent entanglement under the head.
  5. Reinstall the four Phillips-head screws to secure the cover.
  6. Inspect the thread path:
  7. Confirm that the threads are seated correctly through all guides and tensioners.
  8. Check both top and bottom threading paths for any signs of binding or misalignment.
  9. Rethread the needles if necessary, and proceed with normal machine operation.

Conclusion:
The take-up levers should now be correctly aligned and the machine reassembled. Always double-check thread paths and tension before resuming production.
