How To Adjust The Trimming Blade
The trimming blade on a commercial embroidery machine is the small but powerful component responsible for cutting the upper and bobbin threads automatically between color changes or at the end of a design. Its main purpose is to streamline production by eliminating the need for manual trimming, saving you time and improving the professional appearance of your finished product.
A properly functioning trimming blade ensures clean, precise cuts—preventing loose threads, tangled bobbins, or messy finishes. However, if the blade becomes dull, misaligned, or improperly timed, it can lead to thread jams, incomplete trims, or frayed threads, which can halt your production or compromise the quality of your embroidery.
You may need to adjust the trimming blade if:
- The thread isn’t being cut cleanly or consistently
- You're switching thread types or thicknesses
- You've recently replaced the blade or done maintenance
- Your machine is missing trims during a design
Regular maintenance and occasional adjustments keep the trimming blade sharp, accurate, and running smoothly—ensuring high-quality embroidery and fewer interruptions.
How to adjust the trimming blade on the EM-1010 embroidery machine.
- This first technique is used when you have to make a large adjustment to the trim blade.
- The machine will need to be on for both techniques.
- Loosen the four hex screws on the trim gear base with a 2.5 mm Allen key.
- Move the blade manually until you can only see just the tip of the movable blade under the fixed blade.
- Once in the right position and just the tip is showing, tighten the four hex screws.
- You will have to reposition the blue sensor as shown in the following technique.
- For smaller adjustments, adjust the blade by rotating the black serrated sensor gear until the blade is in the correct position.
- Then loosen the screw on the blue sensor and move the sensor until the red light turns on then tighten the sensor screw.
- This last step will need to be done for both techniques.
