EM-1010: Needle Bar Depth

PUBLISHED

Incorrect Needle Bar Depth can seem like an issue with Timing, but it would only affect the needle that needs to be adjusted. If the issue is with all needles, the problem is most likely Timing.

First, it's important to determine whether the issue is happening with ALL needles, or just one or a few.

If it's only happening with one or a few needles, it's possible that the issue could be related to the Needle Bar Depth. Adjusting this may resolve the problem you're facing.

If the issue is happening with all of the needles, you will most likely need to correct the Rotary Hook Timing.

To adjust the Needle Bar Depth, please move the head to the affected needle and perform the adjustment below:

  1. Turn the Main Axis on the back of the machine to 100°.

  2. Remove the front cover on your machine.

  3. Disconnect the LED Light Cable.

  4. Push down the top of the needle bar until the needle catches and stays down when let go.

  5. Rotate the Main Axis on the back of the machine to precisely 172°.

You will see the needle lower itself into the needle plate.
  6. Loosen the set screw on the needle bar clamp. Do not remove the screw, simply loosen it.

  7. Lift the top of the needle bar just a bit. You do not need to raise the needle bar all the way up, half an inch is enough.

  8. Insert a 6mm Allen key inside the bobbin area, right above the center shaft that holds the bobbin case. Make sure to keep a flat side facing up and down.

  9. Push the top of the needle bar down until the tip of the needle touches the Allen key.

  10. Once the needle touches the 6mm Allen key, tighten the needle clamp set screw.

  11. Loosen the 2 Allen screws holding the Upper Dead-End point adjustment plate. Once it is loosened, the plate should slide down.

  12. Turn the Main Axis to 360°. The needle will move up and push the adjustment plate up.

  13. Once the machine is at 360°, tighten the 2 Allen screws.

  14. Press the 100° button on the screen to reset the axis. The machine should cycle to 100° and should not have any needles down.

  15. Press the Scissor button to test the needle.

If the adjustment was performed correctly, the needle should cycle down and back up.
If the needle did not cycle down and up, you can try to repeat steps 11-13.

  16. Once the needle is correctly cycling up and down, you have finished the Needle Bar Depth adjustment and can reassemble the front cover on the machine and test the needles.

If after making the adjustment, multiple needles are still having issues, you may need to adjust the Rotary Hook Timing.
