When a “256 Error” is shown on your machine’s control panel, this is signaling a “Hook Error” which means that one of the Hooks was not able to retract to the resting position. This could be due to one of the heads not properly trimming the thread and the Hook getting stuck, or one of the Velcro Bars won't allow the Hook to push out or retract.
Step 1: Remove The Cover Between The Heads.
For a 4 head machine, you will remove the cover between heads 2 and 3.
For a 6 head machine, you will remove the cover between heads 3 and 4.
Step 2: Locate the Hook Position Sensor.
Locate the cylindrical sensor that is under your machine (the sensor will have two Blue tips on both edges).
Step 3: Position The Black Arm On The Sensor.
If the Black Arm is not positioned in front of the sensor, manually move the Black Arm and align it with the sensor. (If you can’t move it, then check each Head and see if any of the Hooks are stuck with thread, or if they are hitting the Velcro Bars.)
Once it is lined up, an amber or red light on the left side of the sensor will turn on.
Once the light is on, this indicates that your Hook error is cleared.
This process is shown in the video below:
