The key to marrying both your adhesive and transfer sheets is by identifying which sides have the adhesive and by evenly applying pressure with a teflon sheet while they are both hot. Trying to stick both sheets together while they are cool won’t allow them to stick.
Two common sheets customers receive are:
- One adhesive paper with two white sides
- One adhesive paper with one side containing yellow lines
Important Tips to Know:
- The white adhesive side with the smoothest texture has the adhesive and for the yellow-lined paper, the white side has the adhesive.
- For either type, the side that has the adhesive should be placed on the mat side of your transfer sheet.
- Make sure to line-up your transfer properly so that the transfer is clean and create a fold on the top-right corner so you can grab it easily once it’s time to separate both sheets.
If you are having issues marrying the transfer and adhesive sheets...
Follow the Instructions Below
- Preheat your Ricoma heat press to 310 F°.
- Then, preheat the bottom silicon pad (platen) along with the top one to 310 F° by closing the press for 300 seconds at 310 F°.
- Once both platens are heated evenly, set your transparent transfer sheet on the platen (glossy side face down) and then place the adhesive sheet on top of it.
- After the sheets are lined up, place a teflon sheet on top of them to ensure you have even heat distribution and that your design does not get burned.
- Once the teflon sheet is in place, close the heat press for 120 seconds
- Next, open your heat press and rub the papers with pressure from corner to corner using a soft cloth to give your papers a final seal both you peel them apart. (You will be doing a “hot peel” which means the papers are still on the platen.)
- Carefully start peeling the adhesive paper off your transparent transfer sheet (peel the sheet low and near the heat press in one gradual motion. Peel the sheet by taking the corner you folded and pull parallel to the platen. Do not peel the sheet by lifting it straight up or jerking the paper when peeling and do not stop peeling until you have completely separated the two sheets.)
The Flat Heat Press: Heat Warning
Keep in mind that your heat press gets very hot and it is always advised to never touch the flat surface during heating cycles. The 5-inch digital touchscreen will always tell you the temperature in either Fahrenheit or Celsius.
